As most of you now know, from the videos posted on iPhoneFreakz and on the ModMyI’s article, yes 1.2 is in its beta stage, and in a dead sprint for the finish line. We here at xGPS are now taking the time to post an official release of the new features, abilities, fixes, and updates coming in this new release of the xGPS Navigation Application for the iPhone Platform.
The previous version of xGPS was a GPS navigation program allowing what iPhone users really wanted out of their iPhone, realtime GPS navigation. So what have we improved upon from the last version? What have we fixed you ask? Well:
- Bookmarks for saved directions now work correctly. Save all the bookmarks you want in an improved way.
- GPX logging now works correctly. Save GPX data into multiple logs. Logs will be saved per calculated trips, and now adds the proper end carriage. Go ahead, track yourself and improve open maps!
- Current Location and Recompute Itinerary now work correctly. For those areas where it didnt work before, i.e. USA, your location status now works. There is no more “you have to have a hard address”. Plot your destination and roll out.
- Wrong Way indicator can now be hidden, should you feel adventurous during your routing, or need to make an extra stop!
- Map Manager on the iPhone Stability.
- Overall program stability and performance upgrades.
For all the updates, improvements, and fixes that have been included into this release, there have also, and probably the most exciting, been some expansion of the xGPS Program! What’s new to xGPS this time around?…:
- Wireless Transfer of your map files. No longer do you have to dig around your iPhones directory to find your map file or put it in the right place. Simply download your maps from your computer and wirelessly push them to the xGPS program on your iPhone. It’s that easy!
- Google Terrain Maps are now supported and added as another option for maps. All your hikers, bikers, and adventurers can enjoy this!
- GPS Information. Access your GPS’s Lat/Long specs as well as Altitude and Speed of your unit and sent it by email.
- English Voice instructions are now supported. Now included is the ability to receive verbal commands on your next turn as you approach it.
- Night Mode for all you road warriors traveling across the country all all hours of the night! A new, easy view for the eyes when driving at night!
- Access your GPX traces on your computer using a normal web-browser using the Wireless Transfer feature.
The xGPS Maps Manager has also new name: xGPS Manager. With a new name, a new software. The manage has thus been rewritten from scratch and now includes those new exciting new features:
- Name your map sections and keep them organized. When downloading maps you can now name each region, allowing you to know what you downloaded, at what zoom levels, and its size.
- Ability to download multiple zoom levels at a time now added.
- Keep drawn region outline when download of map is finished, should you want to download another zoom level or Terrain Maps of the same region!
- Option to show regions already downloaded.
- Google Terrain Maps is now supported.
- Wirelessly push and retrieve your device maps.
- Manage and sync GPX Routes from your iPhone/Computer and show them plotted on a map.
As you can see, a lot has gone into the next installment of the xGPS iPhone Application! We here at Xwaves are trying to give you the most complete and user friendly mappin solution for your iPhone.
As always, we couldn’t do this without you guys, our community. We want to thank you all for your support, input, and debugging of the xGPS software!
We are all excited about this new release and you guys should be too. We are bringing a lot to the table and setting the bar higher and higher for future releases.
The planned release for xGPS 1.2 is for the end of this month. We don’t to communicate a more accurate date as we simply don’t know it. So keep your calendars marked, and stay tuned! And as always you can find the xGPS Software on the ModMyI repo’s (already included with any jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch).

Keep the great work up! Where would apple be without it’s fans. A pitty apple treats us so bad.
Wow guys, this software is great, the upcoming version is even more exciting. At least someone is making something we all need!!

I cant seem to download the current release on cydia, as it gives me a size mismatch…but this looks like the first piece of software that I will actually purchase/donate for.
@Ref
Had the same problem, try downloading from the sections section not from the manage section. Worked for me.
I have also the cydia size mismatch problem…
but it is such a nice pice of software… and it is becoming better and more useful
great job!
I know this is blasphemy for some but I hope you guys make this a paid app at some point. I would love to donate, but really you guys deserve some cash for this one (and I am a big supporter of cracking!). This is what the iPhone has begged for. I have played with 1.1 though so far it has not been perfect. I am sure 1.2 will be great and you need to be compensated to keep up the good work.
I did donate and felt great doing it. It was not much but it was something. I think that this is by far the best app for the iphone.
Hey, I still am getting the same size mismatch issues. I tried through manage, sources, and search. On the installing page, it says “Downloading : 496.3 kB”, “Resuming At: 489.1 kB”,” Disk Usage: 0.0 B”, “Modifications : Install xGPS”. Then I try to download, the bar moves along for a few seconds, and then size mismatch comes up.
Is there anywhere I can download the app to install via SSH?
The manager/wifi-thing sounds cool, but I think the map size would be too big to include e.g. a map of a whole country (like France). Can you comprimize it? The 32-GB-iPhones aren´t yet avaible
To fix the size mismatch problem temporarily, remove the xwaves source and refresh. The modmyi repo works fine.
In current ver i see problem in Russian city search. And Russian unicode language in favorit.
Fix plz.
Can I navigate to point in next ver?
Sorry my eng.
Thnk u
I cant get driving directions to work. No matter what I put in as my destination it tells me “No driving direction can be computed using your query”.
How do I get this to work? Am I entering the address wrong?
No, it’s a bug. You have to put in an actual starting address. You can’t use My Current Location as the starting point. According to the write up on ver 1.2, they know about it and it will be fixed in the upcoming release.
Keep up the good work, guys!
I have been playing with Version 1.1 and It seems promising. The only gripe I have is could you please make it easier to download maps. Its a pain to drag the red box to what area you want to download. How about making it so you can just pick the city name.
thanks
Will there be an ability for offline routing?
Will there also be re-caclulating in the upcoming version/s?
I think the map manager is ok, this way I can save MBs, I don’t always need an entire city or country.
@ Steven…
I believe the recalculating rout feature (when you miss a turn, for example) is already included… BUT since the current version can’t serve up direction in the US by using your current location, it fails and returns a message that directions could not be found using your query. Once they fix that bug (they said the next release is fixed), rout recalculation should work just fine.
I can’t wait… I have been waiting for a true turn by turn gps app since the rumors of the iPhone 3g first hit the net YEARS ago! GREAT JOB guys, truly an amazing feat.
Hi,
Any way to access the google map, rather than download?
Recalculating and current location both work fine in Germany.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! This app is fantastic and it gave me a reason to jailbreak my phone!
I’m happy to donate to help with your development!
I’m very excited for the 1.2 version! I tried the first one yesterday and saw the huge potential it has!! Do you have a twitter site we can follow with all the updates?
Thx for this very neat navigationapp.
Many Thanks ! Very Great app !
Sounds like a great new update. I hope the map manager is better. That is my only problem with the current version. I am currently using “Global Map Download Tool” to download maps.
I just bought my iGPS360 today!
These would be great updates!! But I thinks there is a very important one that you didn’t think about it. When you are writing the directions it would be great if you could put a bookmark instead of a written direction. Like Google Maps, a bookmark that you can move with the finger whetever you want and if you click on it, it says to you in where directions have you put it.
I don’t know if I had explained myself, I hope so
Great JOB!
Yes can’t wait for turn by turn and improved bookmark system. Great to use existing map bookmarks from apple map app. That way we can drop the pin and then use xgps instead for turn by turn directios. Can’t wait….
hi there,
great work for version 1.2. hope, many people will donate to support your work. will there be a speech support for european languages (i. e. german etc.) in the future?
regards
stefan
Future request;
Estmated arrivaltime, and distance to destination on navigationmap.
another great developer goes and shoves apples foot into it’s mouth once again (ie; apple claiming turn by turn wasn’t possible with the current gps module in the phone)
great work.
I’ve one suggestion and one request:
suggestion:
autocorrect when typing directions
also time the current route will take…
request:
traffic on major freeways/highways and time factored in based on that.
can’t wAit for 1.2…
yeah the current location does not work in US with iPhone 3G. searching for places and clicking on item does not make it go into search and there is no voice feature for turn by turn that works with iPhone 3G. looks promising in the vedeos but in it’s beta stage and the one i have currently… this app is useless.
@Clinton.. what a thing to say.
I just wanted to take u to task on that.
I just used xgps to find a location and get turn by turn directions to it. I had never been to this address and was over 20 miles away with a pretty co ex route.
not only did I get there but I got there without having to spin my phone around as the app auto rotates.
I mean shoot… it is free and does what it should do. if version 1.2 only fixes the current location bug and ads voice it will be more complete than some full fledged gps units I’ve seen for “discount” prices.
mabe it was posted already but why not download google maps and vectorize them with xGPS Manager and after that use them in xGPS?
Hi guys,
great work! the only thing i wish for is, that the offline-mode will be more better. im from germany and when i’ve been to other countrys i must pay for rooming, downloads maps for europe for example doesnt work bcouse only germany have 100GB maps … so i hope you build in an download that compress the data very high … but so, i germany i workes great!!!!!!
I read somewhere that a number of people have actually obtained the 1.2 beta version and tested the app… and the maps manager on iPhone…
But in cydia, i can only find the current (1.1.0-1) version on ModMyi, and the XWaves source (http://cydia.xwaves.net/) does not seem to contain anything. Did anyone have success trying to download and test the beta 1.2 version?
I am craving to hear my iPhone say ‘Drive 150 meters then turn left’ !!
Hey great app
But 1 thing that could be better
You cannot get directions to a place(like taco bell or mc donalds or any restaurant). It is only to a specific address. This would great in upcoming updates.
Only request:
Distance to arrival
Why oh why can’t it be the 20th already. I CAN’T wait. Great job guys. You are truly providing something valuable. If I had any extra cash I would donate. I will do my best to spread the word about your product to my friends.
Wow, the new version will be great! If I’m happy with it (mostly the voice thing) I might donate a couple of $ =D
Great job and thank wating
“You cannot get directions to a place(like taco bell or mc donalds or any restaurant). It is only to a specific address.”
I haven’t downloaded or tried this app yet and the fact that so many say “current location” doesn’t work and you need specific addresses for both started and finishing points is kinda discouraging but it still sounds like an app with TONS of usefulness and potential.
Will try it when the new version is released.
One quick question..If I love it and donate to help keep it free and then it becomes a paid app does the version I have become useless and I have to “donate” again?
Just curious. Love to support those that put in time and energy to help others but don’t want to get screwed in the process.
The software will stay free (at lease all the 1.x version will be free).
Man I love this app
Satellite View PLeeeeeeeeeeeze
Really a good number of improvements! I am really excited to try the new version!
Just one offer for you: I have seen you have 9 different localizations for 1.1 release but Spanish is not one of them. I do not know if you are going to include Spanish in v1.2; but if you don’t and do not have any translator, I could do the translation for you (for free, of course
). I am collaborating with other iPhone developers (OfflineMaps for example) and have experience dealing with technical vocabulary.
GOOD WORK!
A function like Hike.app (for firmware 1.x) would be nice. Then i can use my Touch again for Geocaching.
can’t wait for tomorrow (20th)… is it still on track for that date?
I am actually holding off purchasing a small $100 gps until I see what 1.2 does. as long as it has voice to tell me where/when to turn AND can find my current location (I am in las vegas nevada on a legit art account and iPhone 3g) then I 100% WILL DONATE to the developers as I am using the app to get to computer repair jobs…
Great application!!!
Almost! Still set for tomorrow right?
sorry, no new version for tomorrow
“Sorry for the delays but we want to include some feature which are really necessary for this release so it will delay up the release.”
